Planning Permission Approved – Wigan

Planning granted for their semi-detached property on Winstanley, Wigan.!!! 

This is great news for our client, as we’ve recently received planning approval from Wigan Council for their two-story side extension which will be built to assist with their son’s disability. The new extension will include a specialist therapy space with sensory requirements which will help reduce anxiety and help him to have a calmer life. 

This was a long and hard-fought case that normally would have been rejected by the Wigan council as it falls outside of their planning guidelines however, we stuck to the task and gathered the necessary evidence required to get this application over the line. 

This project consisted of renovating and extending a semi-detached property to allow more space for all the family to enjoy as well as their son. Downstairs was designed to have a large living room/therapy room, which would house a lightroom sensory area, a therapy swing to stimulate his vestibular system, a kitchen/bathroom where learning independent living skills can be introduced and a craft area for his enjoyment and doors out to our garden. 

We worked closely with the owners throughout, getting to know their son’s likes and dislikes, to feed into the design. Athtech Designs advised every step of the process, including guidance to gain permissions and dealing with planning submissions. Now that planning has been approved, we have been appointed to produce full building regulations and tender drawings and help our client with the tender process to a select group of local builders.
